While our chapter and organization often focus on the commercial side of buildings, it’s important to remember that the same principles of equipment optimization, energy management, and indoor air quality also apply at home. A healthy indoor environment doesn’t stop at the office, classroom, or hospital—it begins where we live.

In keeping with this year’s ASHRAE Society theme, “Healthy Buildings: Designing for Life,” we’re excited to highlight the release of ASHRAE Standard 62.2-2025, which addresses Indoor Air Quality in residential buildings. This update provides critical guidance for creating safer, healthier living spaces for families everywhere.

Here in Southwest Missouri, prioritizing indoor air quality at home is especially important. Our region experiences hot, humid summers, cold winters, and frequent seasonal shifts—all of which can impact ventilation, moisture control, and pollutant levels inside our homes. By following standards like 62.2, homeowners and builders can take steps to ensure better air circulation, reduce risks from indoor contaminants, and create healthier spaces for their families.
